Teaching for the future

Welcome to my e-portfolio! 

  My name is Hann Lin, and I’ll be honest—teaching wasn’t part of my childhood dream. I grew up in Maryland knowing I wanted to be an artist, and I pursued that path wholeheartedly. After college in Savannah, I moved to Japan in hopes of starting my artistic career there, a lifelong goal of mine. The easiest way to make it happen as a foreigner was to teach English—and that’s how I unexpectedly stepped into education.

  I’ve always loved learning, sharing ideas, and connecting with people from all walks of life. I'm also great with kids, so teaching came naturally. Still, I saw it as a temporary way to support my artistic career. Over the years, I often shared classroom stories with my wife, until one day she asked me a simple but life-changing question: "If you enjoy teaching so much, and you’re so good at it, why don’t you make it your career?"

  That question stuck. Fifteen years later—with a master’s degree in education and three teaching licenses—I can say with pride: I am a teacher, and I love every second of it. Of course, once an artist, always an artist—you can never take that part away from me.

  Outside of teaching and art, I’m also an event organizer. I’ve planned, organized, and hosted countless events, from casual gatherings to official functions (including my own wedding, which was a blast).

  I’ve also been a sponsored competitive speedsoft player (imagine 5v5 paintball, but with plastic pellets). As captain of my team and organizer / host of Taiwan’s only competitive league, I created a space where teens and young adults could compete, connect, and grow. Running year-round events, building the league’s online presence, creating and maintaining the league's website, and even producing custom merchandise taught me invaluable experience.
  
  I’m also a drummer, tattoo enthusiast, snowboarder, big nerd, animal lover (my dream is to one day run a wildlife rescue), and a sometimes-annoying but always-loving husband. I wear many hats, but no lie, I think I will be one of the most diverse, vibrant, and flexible educator you will have on your roster.
